Live & Internet Radio Station

Zwei miteinander verknüpfte Radiostationen betreiben Programmaustausch. Radio A
(lokal), geführt von Freies Radio für Berlin, steht im Bunker und besteht aus einer kleinen,
auf das Ausstellungsgelände beschränkte Live-Radiostation mit angeschlossenem Archiv
zu ausgewählten Themen wie Reisefreiheit, Konsum, Meinungsfreiheit, freie Medien,
Reichtum, Subkultur, etc – eine interaktive Installation mit Mikrophon für Interviews, Moderation usw. Der technische Aufbau wird explizit schlicht gehalten, um den Ausstellungsbesuchern zu veranschaulichen, wie wenig finanziellen und technischen Aufwand es bedarf, ein freies Radio zu betreiben. Dem Ganzen ist allerdings so etwas wie eine reglementierende, strukturierende Oberfläche übergestülpt. Radio B (global) geführt von Pod p. Fyvolent ist ein Internetradio mit Verbindung zu lokalen Radioinitiativen überall auf der Welt. Der wesentliche Aspekt der Idee ist, einen Austausch von Gedanken und Praktiken im Widerstand gegen die Kommmerzialisierung aller Lebensbereiche zu organisieren, und die Rolle von Künstlerinnen und Künstlern in
diesem Bereich zu beleuchten.

Live & Internet Radio Station

Two linked radio stations engage in a program exchange. Radio A (local), run by Freies
Radio fur Berlin, is located in the bunker. It consists of a small live-radio station with a
transmission range limited to the exhibition premises and includes an archive on selected
topics, such as freedom of travel, consumerism, freedom of opinion, free media, wealth,
subcultures, etc. - all as an interactive installation with a microphone that can be used for
interviews, presenting programs, etc. The technical set-up is intentionally kept simple in
order to call visitors’ attention to just how modest the financial and technical means
actually are required to operate a free radio station. However, a certain order and structure
are imposed by the interface. Radio B (global), run by Pod p. Fyvolent, is an Internet radio
station linked to local radio initiatives all over the world. The main aims of the concept
are to organize an exchange of ideas and practical strategies for resisting the increasing
commercialization of all areas of life and to shed light on the role artists play in this
struggle.

Berlin, Gemany | Biography

Das Freie Radio für Berlin hat sich vor Kurzem neu gegründet mit dem Ziel, mindestens EIN freies, nichtkommerzielles Radio in Berlin zu etablieren.Wir kommen aus den unterschiedlichsten Hintergründen. Politische AktivistInnen, KünstlerInnen, Technikbegeisterte oder alles gleichzeitig. Einige von uns haben Internetradio produziert, andere waren an Projekten wie reboot.fm, HipHopRadio in der Volksbühne oder Radio Riff
auf Reisen beteiligt. Kleine Radioinstallationen gab es bisher im Rahmen von Partys
oder Festivals als reine Klanginstallationen, das offene Studio als Experiment ist
ein neuer Versuch| Freies Radio für Berlin recently re-formed with the objective of
establishing at least one free, non-commercial radio station in Berlin.We come from
a wide variety of backgrounds. Some of us are political activists, some are artists,
others are technology buffs – and many of us are all three. Some of us have worked
in producing Internet radio; others were involved in projects such as reboot.fm, Hip-
HopRadio at Volksbühne, or Radio Riff auf Reisen. Up to now we have produced
small radio installations for parties or festivals as pure sound installations; this is
our first experiment with an open studio.

ist Medien-Aktivist, Kunst-Organismus, Radio- und Live-Performance-DJ und der
Gastgeber eines wöchentlichen Programms auf Indybag.org, des Pan Optic Radio
(eine Mischung aus Audio-/Medien-Kompostierung und Interviews mit Provokateuren
der Kunstwelt, die sich im Feld konstruktivistischer und dekonstruktivistischer
Sozialtheorie und/oder in reaktiven Praktiken engagieren). Aus den Kommunikations-
und Filmwissenschaften und der Theater-Tontechnik kommend, hat er
hauptsächlich in den „Indie”-Szenen von San Francisco und Berlin gearbeitet und
mit Audio- und Filmarbeiten zu Festivals wie Ars Electronica, Next 5 Minutes,
Noborder.org, Borderland Film und Arts Festival beigetragen, sowie bei einer Reihe
von Radioprojekten wie Resonance FM, Radio.Indymedia.org und Enemycombatantradio.

Fyvolent ist Mitbegründer des Cellspace Soundlabs, ein Mitglied von Indymedia und des Video Activist Network, Mitarbeiter des Journal of Aesthetics and Protest und Teilzeitbeschäftigter bei der Electronic Frontier Foundation | is a media activist, art organism, radio and live-performance DJ, and the host of a weekly program on Indybay.org called Pan Optic Radio (a mix of audio-/media composting and interviews with art-world provocateurs involved in constructive and deconstructive social theory and/or reactive practice). With a background in communications, film, and theater sound design, he has
worked primarily in the “Indie” scenes in San Francisco and Berlin, contributing both
audio and film work to such festivals as Ars Electronica, Next 5 Minutes, Noborder.org,
Borderland Film, and Arts Festival, as well as on a variety of radio projects from
Resonance FM to Radio.Indymedia.org to Enemycombatantradio.net. Pod p. Fyvolent
is a co-founder of the Cellspace Soundlab, a member of Indymedia and the Video
Activist Network, a contributor to the Journal of Aesthetics and Protest, and a parttime
employee of the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
