Stigmata Spa - Motivationsraum für Märtyrer | Installation
In meiner Rauminstallation “Stigmata Spa –
Motivationsraum für Märtyrer” erforsche ich
bildhaft kulturelle Phantasien über ausgewählte Märtyrerfiguren
aus christlichen Heiligenlegenden bis hin zu islamischen Selbstmordattentätern.
Ist die Überwindung des Überlebenswillens höchster Ausdruck
des freien Willens oder Indiz der Determiniertheit durch kulturelle Prägung
und religiöse Indoktrination? Wie verhält sich jenes Freiheitsverständnis
zu unserem westlichen Weltbild und diesseitigen Körperbegriff, der statt
von willentlicher Weltentsagung vom Willen zur Formung (Spa-Wellness) geprägt
ist?
Mittels Rauminstallation|Raumzeichnung vernetze ich Märtyrerphantasien
und -imagines
zu einer begehbaren Bildwelt, die den Betrachter jenseits rational vermittelter
Begriffe
sinnlich involviert und den Subtext dieser Mythen körperlich erfahrbar
macht. Die verwendeten Materialien korrespondieren mit der Symbol- und Vorstellungswelt
der Märtyrerfiguren und der sie umgebenden Legenden und medialen Bilder.
Stigmata Spa - A Motivational Room for Martyrs
In my installation Stigmata Spa – a Motivational
Room for Martyrs, I aim to explore cultural
fantasies regarding “chosen” martyrs from Christian hagiographies
to Islamic suicide
bombers in pictorial form. Is conquering the self-preservation instinct the
highest expression of free will or evidence of cultural determination and
religious indoctrination? How does this concept of freedom relate to our Western
worldview and our conception of the body, which is shaped by the will to physical
enhancement and perfection (spa-wellness) rather than voluntary renunciation
of the worldly? The installation and drawings tap into cultural fantasies
and images relating to martyrs to create a pictorial space that viewers can
enter directly. Rather than imparting ideas by purely intellectual means,
it draws the viewers in completely so they can experience the subtext of these
myths on a sensual level. The materials used reflect the legends, symbolism,
and medial images surrounding martyrs.
