The three paintings are spiritually inspired by Milton's Paradise Lost [!667] which is a poem about Adam and Eve, their Creation and how they were banished from Eden. It tells of Man, his Fall and of the Messiah and his struggle with Satan, who leads the Angels in revolt against God with his offspring Sin and Death. Furthermore, it's about their Judgement and how the Seed of Woman redeems Mankind. Archangel Michael's last words emphasize the power of Love: "Be strong in faith, in hope and in love, which is stronger than all, then you will be able to leave paradise without anxiety and win paradise in yourselves."
